WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA announces “Summer Job Connection,” a summer youth employment program to employ 1,200 young adults into local jobs starting work on June 22.
Looking for work?
Young adults will have an opportunity to earn $8 an hour and work up to 35 hours a week for 6 weeks. About 100 out of school youth will work in targeted industries for up to 28 weeks. Youth ages 16-24 who live in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake and Sumter Counties who are economically disadvantaged are encouraged to apply for the program.

WCF will pay the wages of the young adults in the program, who may work up to 35 hours a week for 6 weeks. A limited number of opportunities are available for longer work assignments with targeted industries (healthcare; STEM: science, technology, engineering, & math; green industries/jobs; emerging). All employers are encouraged to apply; priority may be given to non-profit, government and targeted-industries in for-profits.
“The Summer Youth Employment Program will provide valuable work experience and income to 1,200 young adults, and it will have an immediate financial impact on our local economy,” shares Gary J. Earl, President & CEO of WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA. WCF’s $3,084,245 program is funded by stimulus dollars under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act. WCF expects to receive a total of $12 million in stimulus dollars over the next two years to support employment and job training programs. Details will be announced in June for additional programs.
